The Fifth Regiment Armory, also known as the Maryland National Guard Armory, is a historic building located in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Constructed between 1901 and 1903, the Armory was designed by architects Wyatt and Nolting in the Renaissance Revival style. It served as a National Guard armory for many years and was also used for a wide range of events, including political rallies, concerts, and sporting events.
The Armory is a massive structure, spanning over 200,000 square feet and featuring a large drill hall, offices, barracks, and a gymnasium. Its most notable feature is the grand ballroom, which features a 5,000 square foot dance floor and a 100-foot-high ceiling adorned with elaborate plasterwork.
Over the years, the Armory has hosted a wide range of events, from boxing matches to political conventions. It also served as a base for military units during the two World Wars and the Korean War. Today, the building is used as a venue for events such as trade shows, concerts, and indoor sports. It is also home to the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Project, which is a tribute to the life and legacy of the civil rights leader.
